HTC announces mid-range Desire 500 for the UK | Android Central

HTC Desire 500

4.3-inch WVGA display, quad-core CPU, 8MP camera, coming later this month

HTC has confirmed that the latest addition to its Desire family, the mid-range Desire 500, will be headed to the UK. Originally announced for Taiwan last month, the device packs a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, a 4.3-inch WVGA (800x480) display and an 8-megapixel camera, and runs the latest Sense 5 software from HTC. That includes the BlinkFeed home screen reader and automatic video highlights — although Zoes, the three-second photo/video clips, aren't mentioned in today's presser.

Externally, the Desire 500 is an attractive but unassuming slab-shaped device that has more in common with historic HTC designs than current devices like the One and Butterfly series. Perplexingly, the phone has only two capacitive buttons, even though there's space for plenty more — so you're limited to just back and home, like on the HTC One.

The Desire 500 also packs an ample 1800mAh battery, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD slot. But when it comes to connectivity, you'll top out at 7.2Mbps HSDPA data speeds according to the official spec sheet — so it seems there's no 4G LTE, or even HSPA+ on offer here.

The HTC Desire 500 will be available in "Lacquer Black" and "Glacier Blue" color options with retailer and carrier partners in the "select markets" later this month. In certain territories, HTC says, a version with dual-SIM capabilities and NFC support will also be offered.

You'll find more details in the presser down below, along with official renders.

By working with professional music editors, the image transitions for each theme are specifically timed to the tempo to ensure a professional result with zero effort.
